Summer Accommodation
The Summer Trimester is 14 weeks, from mid-November to mid-February. Residents at Helen Lowry Hall are self-catered, using the kitchens in the residential houses. All kitchen equipment is provided, and there is also a BBQ that students are welcome to use. In the 2010 / 2011 summer trimester we are able to offer catered rooms. Please see the note below the fees table for further information.
Rooms
Summer residents are usually allocated in one of the six wooden houses scattered around the property. There are both single and shared rooms available.
Summer is relaxed and the rules are few. Residents can either study or work. Each house has its own kitchen, and there is a cupboard allocated to every resident to store your own food. There are two BBQs residents can use - just collect the gas bottle from the office. Common areas are available and are cleaned every day. Residents can use all the facilities at the hall except the main dining room, which is shut during summer.
Shuttles and Activities
The shuttle runs to the Kelburn and Piptitea Campus twice daily, usually at 9am and at 4pm. Times are discussed at the Welcome BBQ, along with some other housekeeping matters.
There are also weekly activities organised to keep residents connected with others. In the past they have been beach trips, marshmallow roasting, New Years Eve parties, overnight camps and tramps, and for those around on Christmas Day, a special lunch.

Catering offered 2010 / 2011
This coming summer we will trial a catering service for those who request catering. It will depend on demand. For those who sign up, the caterers will provide breakfast and dinner every day. Should the level of interest in a catered service be below our expectations, we will stop the service and the fees will be all self catered (and a refund will be paid for meals not provided).
Maintenance Programme
The summer period between November and February is the ideal tine for us to perform annual maintenance. Our programme usually includes painting, recarpeting, and major building work. If major maintenance is needed in your room, we may ask for you to move to another room in the Hall while the maintenance work is being completed. If this is the case we may give a reduction in rent. Information on our maintenance programme will be given in the Welcome BBQ, or earlier.
